I'm going to call this animation done for now. It's time to move on to something new. I learned a lot with this shot,it was especially challenging working with the character's short legs. Animating the camera definately added that action feel to the shot so I was happy with that as well. Special thanks to Chad Veron for his awesome TINY creature rig. More keys involved. I'm still trying to make the arms not so symmetrical. I've put off animating the fingers and facial animation until the end polish stage. So far I think the timing is looking better. I added the helicopter idea there, thanks to Nate B. I think it looks more interesting that way. Let me know what you think.

Here's a anination test I'm working on just for fun using TINY rig. It's first pass blocking animation with rough camera motion. I'm still tweaking the poses and making some of the motions a little bit more fluid. I will have the 2nd pass sometime this week with more inbetweens. Thanks for watching!

New Black Eyed Peas music video I worked on last month. I animated some of the flying robots and cleaned up some of the mocap dancing animations. It was an awesome short project and I really enjoyed working with the people at Proof Inc. ( a PreVis broadcast studio in LA)

Sidestep Exercise Animation

Here's a simple animation I worked on today just for fun. I went through the Jason Ryan Animation SIDESTEP tutorial covering a step by step process of creating a flipbook 2d and 3d version of this animation. In his tutorial he used the Boris rig but instead I used the MOOM rig which worked out great for this demo. The only problem I came across with while using the MOOM rig was that the geometry sometimes looked crunched up around the hip area, but overall it's an excellent rig and I did enjoy the ribbon squash and stretch on the limbs which added a lot to the cartoony feel of the animation.

Here are a few flipbook animations I did following Jason Ryan's flipbook method. I had fun creating these and hopefully employ this method in my own workflow someday. I personally think that the 2d version was much more appealing, oh well I just have to remember not to make my CG work look very ROBOTIC. Keep animating!!!

So I'm going to try this new idea, and the point of it is to get me to sketch anywhere and anytime. Every week or so I'll be posting up some of my quick sketches from my molskine sketchbook. All the animators and concept artists at work have been using them and I just wanted to join the fun of sketching. Now these sketches are by no means masterpieces, they're simply my recording of what I see around me. So here's the first series of sketches I did this weekend. I walked around Redondo Beach and sketched some of the people walking around, fishing, and playing with their kids. There's a huge dog park by my place so I stopped by and TRIED sketching some of the dogs. I realized that dogs are so much harder to draw than cats. They're constantly on the move so it's a challenge to capture their poses, but here they are. Across the the dog park, there was a baseball game going on so I sat on a bench a distance away from the field and sketched what I could capture. I hope you had a good weekend and ejoy the week.

I am currently working on a 2 person dialogue for my AM class 4. The line of dialogue is from Arrested Development and it's a conversation between the father and the son. Here's a quick peek at my thumbnails and sketches. I'll post my first blocking stage in a few weeks. See you soon.

The goal was not to recreate the exact look of the image reference but to capture the pose, the overall personality of the expression.
